                                                                  Human Geo

Today in Human Geo we watched a video on population. After the video we were given questions to answer. The answer to question 1 is A. Furthermore, the answer to question 2 is D. The answer to number three is C. Finally, the answer to number 4 is B. While I was watching this video I was really fascinated by all the facts on population. I also enjoyed going on the different websites and learning about our population. The worlds population in 2013 was 716,162,119,434. That's a lot of people! Right now China has the largest population at 1,395,824,289. I can't believe that there is that many people in China right now. Overall, I really enjoyed the video and visiting these websites.

                                                                       Human Geo

Today in Human Geo we heard different facts from the CIA fact book website. One fact was that in Germany the literacy was 99% which means that age fifteen and older can read and write. Furthermore, in Chad the literacy is 34.5%. That is really low compared to Germany's literacy. Germany's water is also 100% clean.  The world literacy is 84.1%.  I thought that the world literacy would be in the 90's. We also talked about Monaco. 90% of the population is Roman Catholic. Monaco's population is 30,508, that's like the population just in Bel, Air. Another fact about Monaco is the death rate is 9.01. That mean more people are dying then being born in Monaco. I found that fact very interesting. I didn't think that more people were dying. However, we concluded that most of the babies are getting sick and dying and that's why. Overall, I really enjoyed learning new facts about our world.

                                                                       Human Geo

Today in Human Geo we went over everything in our power point. We reviewed key terms like crude death rate and crude birth rate. We also went over TFR again. Right now in the US the TFR is 2.06. You would think that means our population is decreasing. However, our population is not decreasing because the immigrants coming in from other countries. Furthermore, I didn't really understand that until today. So I am very happy that we went over this stuff in class. Overall, I like when we have review days.

                                                                        Retreat

Today I wasn't in Human Geo because I was on a retreat. I had a lot of fun on the retreat meeting new people and connecting with God.

                                                                       Human Geo

Today in Human Geo we continued talking about different terms having to do with our population. Instead of writing a paragraph blog. Instead I'm going to share with you some of the key terms I have learned over the past few days.

Life expectancy- The average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year.

Crude birth date- The number of births per 1000 of the population

Crude death rate- The number of death per 1000 of the population

Developing nations- a less developed country that has no health care and not enough food or water

Developed nation- a country that has good health care and enough for everyone to survive

Rate of natural increase- produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate

Net migration rate- the difference between the number of persons entering and leaveing a country during a year

Immigration- persons entering the country

Emigration- persons leaving the country

Push forces- something that makes you want to leave the country like, civil war, environment degradation, unemployment or underemployment, and religious or ethnic persecution

Pull forces- something that makes you want to go to a country like, better economic opportunity, better heath services, religious freedom, and political freedom

Total fertility rate- the average number of children born per women

                                                            Human Geo

Today in Human Geo we visited the CIA website and looked at different countries. We talked mostly about life expectancy. Monaco continued to stay number 1 in life expectancy. The united States went up to number 42 in life expectancy. Chad is still very low at 223 in life expectancy. We also talked about immigration and emigration. Immigration is how many people are coming int the country and emigration is how many people are leaving. The United States went down in immigration from 3.62 to 2.45.  However, Mexico went from -3.11 to -1.64 for emigration. Canada's immigration went from 5.56 to 5.66. That's not a really big difference, but it still went up. I also found some interesting facts about the United states. For example, the United States is ranked 18th for obesity. Also in the United States 82.1% speak English. Today in Human Geo we also talked about crude death rate and crude birth rate. Crude birth rate is the number of births per 1000 of the population. Likewise, crude death rate is the number of deaths per 1000 of the population. The United States is 150 in birth rate and 94 in death rate. Overall, I thought the CIA website was very cool and I enjoyed learning all about our country and other countries today.

                                                          Human Geo

Today in Human Geo we talked about the population in the world. There are currently over 7 billion people on the planet right now. That's a lot of people! Furthermore, the population is increasing by 73 million each year. On the other hand, 90% of this population growth takes place in the developing countries of Africa, South and East Asia, and Latin America. Even if all of this growth is going on in other countries ours is still growing too. There are more people being born than people dying. Which is a really good thing so our population will grow. Overall, we have a very big population and I hope it gets even bigger.

                                                                               Test!

Today we had our first test in Human Geo. I was really scared and nervous for our first test. I studied a lot and I just wanted to do good. When we got in class I was re-leaved to hear that we could use our blogs. By using our blogs I got to use a lot more detail than I wold have used. I thought I did a good job on the test. It wasn't' too easy and wasn't too hard. The test was perfect. There were some challenging parts, but they just made me think harder. However, I wish I had a little more time to complete the test. I also was a little distracted by the guy cutting the bush by the window. Overall, I thought I did well on the test today!

                                                                   Human Geo

Today in Human Geo we reviewed for our test on Wednesday. We have our first test coming up and I'm studying hard every night for it. I have always studied for every test I have and will continue that through high school. The main topics for this test are Letter to Garcia, Ancient Greece, Did you know? 3.0, and Globalization and Americanization. I felt as we were reviewing in class that I knew everything we were going over. Furthermore, I am confident I will pass this test! As long as I study and know my information I will be fine. Overall, I like reviewing in class so I know what to study!

                                                                     Human Geo

Today in Human Geo we talked about globalization. Globalization is the connection of different parts of the world. Globalization also results in the expansion of international cultural, economic, and political activities. A lot of globalization is associated with Americanization. One way globalization has spread is through religion. For example, Roman-Catholicism is now the dominant religion of the Philippines. Furthermore, people speaking more than one language is becoming more common with Globalization. A lot of people around the world are learning to speak English. Movies are also one of the leading media of globalization. An example of this is when there are people from different countries that are stars in American movies. Also other countries advertise American movies. Overall, globalization is spreading in many ways around the world.

                                                                   Human Geo

Today in Human Geo we continued to discuss about how far our world has come. Our generation has so much technology its insane. Mr.Schick was telling about the old cell phone and I was so shocked of how far they have come. A cell phone used to be big and bulky and would only call. Today our phones are smart phones that are like mini computers. I can't believe how much the cell phone has developed in a few years. Its crazy to think about. We also talked about the computer. The computer used to be like a little box. It also didn't have all the search engines like Google on it. Furthermore, it had very little storage on it. Today we have Macs that can be as large as a TV. We also have a lot of search engines now that come up with all different information. I can't believe how much technology has changed. Overall, its insane to think about how much technology has come along.

                                                               Human Geo

Today in Human Geo we talked about the different things in our generation. We watched a video about our generation and the world that was really cool and interesting. I was shocked when I saw this video. I couldn't believe that Facebook would be the third largest country if it was a country! That's insane. That just goes to show how much social media has grown over the past few years. No one in our generation would know what to do without social media. The video also said that there are 50 million tweets per day. That's A LOT of tweets. The video also mentioned that there are 31 billion searches on Google per month. This shows how much people rely on Google and the internet for answers now a days. Furthermore, I never realized how much social media and the internet plays in our lives. I can honestly say I don't know what I would do without the internet or social media. Whenever I need to look something up I go to Google I never even think about going to a book or library I go straight to the internet. I also am checking social media all he time to see what other people are doing. Overall, I don't know what our generation would do without social media, or the internet.

                                                           Human Geo

Today in Human Geo we had a debate about are seats. Furthermore, when we first walked in class Mr. Schick gave us assigned seats. However, not everyone liked their seats and wanted to be able to pick their seats. On the other hand, we had just learned about how the Greeks had a democracy where they would vote about every decision. Likewise, our class thought we should get to vote just like the Greeks. One of our classmates Nate then stood up and gave a "speech" about how we should be able to sit where we want. In Nate's speech he proceeded to say how we all love sitting with our friends and we like being social. I also agreed with Nate and wanted to be able to sit with my friends. Furthermore, a few more people stood up and said the same thing. I thought our argument was strong and we should sit where we want. In conclusion, Mr.Schick finally gave into us and we got to sit where we wanted. Overall, I thought it was really cool having a debate and getting to vote like the Greeks.

                                                     Human Geo

Today in Human Geo we talked about Elbert Hubbard. Elbert Hubbard wrote a Message to Garcia. The Message to Garcia was a letter ranting about how people never do what they are asked without complaints, or questions. However, there was one gentleman Rowan who did exactly what he was told without any questions. In the Message to Garcia they explained how while the Spanish-American war was going on Rowan delivered a message for president McKinney. It took Rowan three weeks ,but he delivered the message and never asked any questions. The moral of the Message to Garcia was how people never do what they are told. People always ask questions or ask other people to do their work for them. Rowan did what he was told. The Message to Garcia was published in 1899, and went viral. Everyone wanted a copy of this. Over a million copies were printed. Overall, I was fascinated in class today by the Message to Garcia.
